Welcome

Welcome one, welcome all. This is a new blog for all those crafty (as in working with you hands, not as in the devil) people I know and should know. I've started this blog as a place for us to build a little bit of a community together.

I'll start with an intro of myself.
My name is Sarah. I grew up as a missionary kid in Kenya. I lived in the "bush" from age 1 until 3rd grade. When I went into third grade my parents moved to Nairobi where I lived until I graduated from high school. I came back to the US and went to Covenant College where I studies middle grades education. After college I met Kirk and then left the country (sure I'd missed out on the love of my life). I went back to Kenya for 8 months and then came back to the US. I got married to Kirk and we promptly moved to St. Louis.

Where do crafts come into this little life story, you ask? My mom sewed and did cross-stitch as I was growing up so I remember playing with her sewing machine and I really got into cross-stitch. When we had Joanna I was given a TON of plain white onsies. I started doing embroidery on them to make them more interesting. Last winter I crocheted Joanna a hat which started a whole new realm of projects. I love making things with my hands. It's something that I can do while at home with Joanna and even while watching a movie or reading with Kirk.

So, join in the fun with ideas, advice, funny stories, cute pictures, and your own tales. If you would like to become an author along with me just let me know. Spread the news.

You can view some of my work on my Flikr account and in my Etsy shop.

Cool blog idea. But I confess I'm confused. "Saint City Crafters"? Is that like a cross between "New City" and "Saint Louis"? I wish this city were full of saints anyway... :-)

Sarah, I just realized I forgot to give you my designs for those purses I made. (How many months ago was that???) Remind me to do that if you're still interested.

The stuff I have is called HeatnBond Iron-on Adhesive. It's adhesive with paper on one side. You iron it onto the fabric, cut out the shape, peel off the paper, and iron your appliqué onto whatever you are putting it on.

Hey, Adorable!

What is that material called that you iron on to the fabric you use for appliques? Did you say that the adhesive is two-sided, so that it bonds to the applique fabric as well as to the piece of clothing?

Thanks!
Renae

I'm glad to see this up and running!
For those of you who haven’t seen Sarah’s stuff, I must say, I as well as my sister AND her daughter have worn Sarah's work and love it!
P.S. Gosh that picture of you SO reminds me of Joanna.
